Tattoo Freeze well and truly opened the 2016 convention calendar for Rising Phoenix Tattoo.
As we packed up and made our way to Telford International Centre, we were not only excited to work this ‘chilled’ show but looked forward to enjoying the added entertainment that included Roller Derby Rumble, VW Camper show and of course the ever amusing compere Paul Sweeney who keeps the crowd going through the Tattoo Awards 😉
With an early morning journey for most of the crew, it was a coffee fueled day rather than our usual alcoholic one!
PJ, AJ, Nick and Martin all had pre-booked full days so as soon as we set up it was machines at the ready to get started with their artwork.
Throughout the day it was safe to say that the lads got some good customer attention whilst tattooing, with the crowds coming back time and time again to see how they each were progressing.
PJ was completing a stunning black & grey back piece on his loyal client Mitchell, with a custom design he created of a Clown Puppeteer. In total including studio sessions, it has tallied up only 18 hours. With 2 Newspapers, including the Daily Star doing an interview with PJ and Nik, it got a lot of appreciation, which was very humbling for PJ and Mitchell.
AJ brightened things up with his colourful Aztec piece inspired by the musical genius David Bowie’s work and visions. The main image he based on The Aladdin Sane album cover. This added to Matts every growing leg sleeve, which AJ is working on regularly at the studio.
Nick most definitely bought the Sunday Service well and truly down to earth and beneath, with his custom design of what can only be described as the Grim Reaper house sitting a burning church! Modeled almost nakedly by his best mate Will, it was full on pants on show for him! With crisp black lines, this piece was clean and solid.
Our newbie Martin completed the diverse set with his creation of a Bane Portrait done on our regular client Lee who has joined us to a few conventions now and never fails to sit like a Don! In Black & Grey, this portrait is smooth and detailed for its size.
We have been to the show before, but this was out first time working. Even without any awards weighing down our journey home, we all still had a blast and was good to see some familiar faces.
As always a massive thank you to our clients, for travelling with us and being tattooed on display!
Looking forward to doing it all over again for The Great British Tattoo Show. This one runs for the entire weekend, so a few drinks may be in order….be rude not to 😉
